ABSTRACT

In the introduction to this book, we provided a sketch of a conceptual framework for defining the ubiquitous internet as a multisided phenomenon characterized by accessibility, mobility, interoperability, and openness. The eight studies in this volume have expounded on these defining characteristics through analyses of how the ubiquitous internet is managed by users and the industry, respectively. Furthermore, in describing these characteristics and the associated practices the chapters all point to inherent tensions in the development and uses of ubiquitous internet.
