ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurial learning has emerged as an important theme among scholars. However, little is known about entrepreneurial learning in China. The aim of this chapter is therefore to compare Western and Eastern approaches to entrepreneurial learning. The author presents insights gained from individual and focus group interviews conducted among Chinese hi-tech entrepreneurs to illustrate aspects of learning. The chapter concludes that while there are similarities in approaches to entrepreneurial learning there are some differences: Eastern entrepreneurs emphasise moral and value-driven perspectives; while reflection on, and internalisation of, learning resulting in generative learning is embedded in Western entrepreneurial learning.
