ABSTRACT
Current archaeological and biological anthropology evidence indicates that evolving humans established a culture system approximately 2.5 million to 2.7 million years before the present. Approximately 4000 cultures are known to have existed since the beginning of a cultural system.[1] A detailed ethnographic record exists for 1264 contemporary cultures; limited ethnographic materials exist for approximately 200 additional cultures.[2]
