ABSTRACT
Salo Baron, the foremost twentieth-century historian of Jewish culture, was born in Tarnow, Galicia in 1895. His remarkable range of knowledge covered Jewish history from the most ancient period to modern America, yet much of his most important work was devoted to medieval subjects. While other scholars may be more “expert” in a narrow segment of medieval Jewish history, Baron was undoubtedly the master of the overall subject.
