ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. The author discusses the development of international networking by Slavic and East European librarians and information specialists, beginning with the 1974 First International Conference on Soviet and East European Studies (Banff, Canada). At first limited to librarians and information specialists from North America and Western Europe, with the collapse of communism in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the level of international cooperation among librarians and information specialists dealing with Slavic and Eastern European materials greatly increased. The Tallinn conference of librarians and information specialists was the fifth such quinquennial meeting held since 1980.
