ABSTRACT
SUMMARY. The author discusses a project at Indiana University Library, funded by a $240,000 grant from the United States Department of Education, to convert to digital form and make available the citations from the Soviet index to journal articles, Letopis’ zhurnal’ nykh statei, for the period 1956-1975. The goal of the project was to produce a word-searchable bibliographic database that could be made available via the Web. The author discusses the details of setting up and operating the project and mentions expected and unexpected complications encountered during the course of the project.
