ABSTRACT

Managing patron entitlements to law library resources is an increasing need. In the past, collection access has been shaped by material culture, i.e., social rules of conduct and technology. At the beginning of the twentieth century, circulation librarians efficiently adopted existing commercial technology to meet patron demands. The development of centralized access services departments and the evolution of library automation provide a foundation for managing patron access to digital collections. In the future, access services librarians must integrate technology with library service models to maintain efficient patron access.
