Introduction

In a glass display case under a spotlight in the Smithsonian Institution sits one of the original terminals in the OCLC network. It is part of the National Museum of American History's permanent exhibition entitled “Information Age: People, Information & Technology.” In my view, it is not only an important exhibit, but the exhibit title clearly has the key variables in the right sequence, with people first, then information, and then technology.
