ABSTRACT

Academic literature on foreign correspondents revolves mainly around an ontological approach, attempting to paint a concrete image of who these people are (profiles), what they are doing (practices), and according to which professional logics (news values). This inquiry emerges as particularly important in times of radical change in the model of foreign correspondence, which is taking place in the 21st century, from a traditional single model to a plurality of types still under formation. The present study focuses mostly on foreign correspondents’ profiles and practices, seeking to establish whether this shift has actually been implemented in countries of the periphery, such as Cyprus.
