ABSTRACT

Wesleyan University Library began a two-year pilot project in Fall 2001 to offer collaborative digital reference services to a 170group of small liberal arts colleges. Advances in information technology have had a major impact on the organizational structure and philosophy of college reference and research services. This article details the scope of the pilot project during its first year of operation, its impact on the participating libraries, and what they have learned about this new way of reaching library users.
