ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. This workshop demonstrated how a multi-departmental team at a state university library devised a method of tracking their patrons’ use of electronic federal government depository materials. Due to the increasing percentage of documents migrating to electronic-only format and the unusual joint use arrangement between the university and the local community, library staff saw the need to develop a new way of identifying which electronic government documents have been accessed via the library’s online catalog. The presenters described how the usage statistics have enabled them to learn more about their patrons and their information needs and, therefore, how to make more informed decisions about collection management and programming.
