ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. The International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is a part of everyday life for serialists of all kinds. The ISSN serves many purposes. An understanding of these purposes, along with an overview of the ISSN program’s history, organization, and current issues affecting standards, are all important points of information for anyone working with serials. This tactics session covered information on the ISSN as presented by two serials catalogers from the National Serials Data Program at the Library of Congress, Esther Simpson and Pamela Simpson. Issues specific to electronic continuing resources were also addressed. [Article copies available for a fee from The Haworth Document Delivery Service: 1-800-HAWORTH.
