ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. Anderson and White discussed how librarians assist in achieving the greatest benefit for both parties from a library service vendor relationship. All aspects of the relationship were covered, from a library’s first contact with a vendor through the negotiations of the final deal, to ongoing contacts and troubleshooting. The presenters focused on key themes such as treating the vendors and their representatives respectfully, how much librarians should prepare and inform themselves prior to meeting with representatives, and the difference between being assertive and being unreasonable. In short, just as the vendors have obligations to their customers, libraries have obligations to their vendors.
