ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. This essay is a direct response to Archbishop Harry J. Flynn’s keynote at the Symposium “Trusting the Clergy: The churches and communities come to grips with sexual misconduct.” It focuses on the context of the Catholic Church in the U.S., the experience of child victims of sexual abuse, and challenges the church to fulfill the “Charter for the protection of children and young people” presented by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
