SUMMARY. This essay is a direct response to the keynote by Fr. Cozzens at the Symposium “Trusting the Clergy: The churches and communities come to grips with sexual misconduct,” discussing the emphasis in recent responses by dioceses which seems to focus on avoiding legal liability and offering an ethical analysis of sexual abuse by clergy.
