ABSTRACT

For myself, the morning of September 11 began as usual. I was first informed about the World Trade Center attacks at 9:30 AM as I entered a room that was filling with patients for a group. All at once, every person began telling me about what had been happening for the last 45 minutes. Most of the patients had been getting ready for program or eating breakfast as every station on television suddenly interrupted their scheduled programs to broadcast the horror unfolding. Many witnessed the Second tower being struck while they watched news reports on the first plane crash. It was difficult to continue with the group, as I also wanted to watch the news. For hours, the only information I received was via patient and staff report. I remember many staff members trying to locate family and friends in hope of good news and their safety.
