ABSTRACT

This volume presents new perspectives on the lives of older widows and divorcees, and on some of the problems they face in adjusting to and living life without a spouse. The theme of women on their own again was chosen to address the perception that older widows and divorcees are on their own again because they have lost a spouse. As the authors of various articles have made clear, in reality most older widows and divorcees are not on their own again, but live within specific social and cultural networks from which they receive a great deal of support.
