ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. This article will report on the responses to a survey of current practices from more than 163 art and architecture libraries in the U.S. and Canada. The October 2001 survey asked about facilities, services, equipment, acquisitions practices, collections, and library instructional activities. The surveys were sent to 195 libraries in colleges and universities, art schools, and large art museums. With an 84% response rate, this survey is one of the most comprehensive assessments of art and architecture libraries ever done. It not only provides documentation as to the state of the profession at the beginning of the twenty-first century but also will serve as a measure for art and architecture librarians to use in reviewing their own libraries.
