ABSTRACT

Money is a concrete representation of energy. As such, it is a primary vehicle for the exchange of individual and collective energy in consumer based societies. It is also an archetypal symbol of power that signifies much about the person who possesses it and how she or he uses power in relationship to self and others. Because money is the symbolic carrier of energy and power, it is also a representation of the therapy itself. Therefore, all aspects of fee such as what form it takes, how much, who pays and when to pay are all of the utmost importance. The manner in which the therapist addresses the issue of fee as well as the other ground rules and her ability to both secure andmaintain the therapeutic frame at the initial session and later will set the course of therapy.
