ABSTRACT

In literature and popular culture, psychology, animal behavior, and fashion, 1994 was clearly The Year of the Dog. The success of best-selling books like Elizabeth Marshall Thomas’s The Hidden Life of Dogs (1993), Stanley Coren’s The Intelligence of Dogs (1994), and Vicki Hearne’s Animal Happiness (1994) coincided with the renewed interest in dog movie and TV stars, and with a general fascination with putting on the dog.
