ABSTRACT

Hannah Arendt summed up her whole life's work which covered issues about totalitarianism, revolution, the human condition, friendship and love as simply being about 'thinking what we are doing'. Social construction methodology has been deployed in order for one to try to grasp the idea that social scientists work with certain methodologies, methods and theories to try to analyse the social world. The methodology of social construction is the only way of looking at social problems, although its use in the teaching of this subject area is quite common. Poverty has been deemed to be the fault of the poor or the result of fundamental social inequalities. Problems of migraton have been characterised as an issue to do with over-population or associated with racism. Work be constructed as an economic issue, purely to do with labour market employment, or as a site for the perpetuation of gender equalities.
