ABSTRACT
A few hours spent among the available early Australian accounting records is an interesting, profitable, and, in some respects, chastening experience. In the Mitchell Library, Sydney, there is quite a variety of accounting records, and even a rapid and inadequate survey of some of them has convinced me that there is here a fruitful field for research by an accountant with some feeling for historical background or for a historian with some knowledge of accounting procedures.
