ABSTRACT
Darfur has historically had low investment in health infrastructure and it had the most underdeveloped health system among Sudan's northern regions before the crisis. This paper reviews the health status of Darfur at the start of the conflict, seven years ago. It compares the Darfur region with other regions of northern Sudan. The three southern regions of Sudan are not included in the study because of war and instability at that time.
