ABSTRACT
The ruling period of Sultan Ali Dinar, the last Sultan of Darfur, was marked by his attempts to revive the indigenous system of administration. The system was parochial in nature (i.e. highly colored by the local socio-historical conditions of each ethnic or tribal community) and is referred to in this paper as the “traditional” ruling system.
