ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the initial steps in music careers and music productions which are often at the base of future creative networks. It focuses on music graduates and their career perspectives, using data collected from the Higher Education Statistical Agency (HESA). The chapter further presents the literature and previous research in the field, and describes the data and methodology used in this research. It presents the results from the short-term perspective of six months after graduation and explores the longitudinal data. The data presented highlight a complex picture of different academic practice as well as different ways of entering work, and creative careers in particular. Juuti and Littleton reflect on how students form their identity entering academia and how after in the transition from study to work they redefine their possible identities and trajectories in relation to employment or career paths.
