ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses the conceptual and empirical development of cooperative security and regional governance in Latin America. It uses as a background the main experiences of security arrangements that can be characterized as cooperative and that have contributed to the building of regional security governance. Other important concepts are introduced briefly to better clarify the current state of the debate in the region and the conceptual framework of some of the existing regional security regimes and organizations.
