ABSTRACT

Collection development, as a series of skills, knowledge and behaviors, has undergone a dramatic shift over the past decade, with the advent of web-based electronic resources. This is particularly true in the sciences, which are heavily serials-based. Granted, abstracts and indexes have been available electronically for a long time (pre-web), however, full-text article-based e-resources have changed the nature of scholarly communication, and therefore collection development, in rather dramatic fashion.
