ABSTRACT

In the Introduction to this set of studies, it was suggested that there are strong converging trends in retailing across both the industrial and emerging economies of the Asia Pacific. The question was also asked about whether we can discuss the retail sector as one, right across the region. The answer of course is both yes and no. The studies presented here offer a great deal of food for thought about the direction of change, the strategic issues for retail businesses wishing to expand in the region, and the problems for those concerned with the impact of change and the dilemmas of regulation.
