ABSTRACT
At the outset we recognise that the planet is a cultural and biological kaleidoscope. In the 14 years since the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), and 20 years since the term was first coined, significant advances have been made in the global management of biodiversity. But while environmental problems have become globalised, their potential management solutions have become more localised.
