ABSTRACT
Space will not permit a detailed historical account of the relationship between South Africa and Rhodesia/Zimbabwe. What is clear from the historical record is that there has existed what Deon Geldenhuys calls a "special relationship" between the two countries based on "geographical contiguity, historical ties, economic interdependence, racial solidarity and shared political interests" (Geldenhuys, 2003, p. 102).
