Introduction

I write these lines to draw chaplains–and every reader–into thinking about intercessory prayer–what it is and what it is not. What can chaplains and patients expect from such intercessions? What does one think when the expected–or unexpected–happens during or after such prayers? Are there really unanswered–or answered–prayers? The attitudes and pastoral practice of every chaplain–every reader–implies answers to such questions.
