ABSTRACT

I first heard Dr. Larry Dossey speak in 1995 at a conference in Buffalo, New York. He presented his topic on the power of intercessory prayer to a group of health care providers, hospice care givers, nurses, doctors, social workers, and clergy. His message claiming the power of intercessory prayer to help in care of patients was captivating. It was intriguing because it came from the very profession that has so long separated itself from any kind of public acknowledgement of the impact of a person's spiritual life on health and healing. As he described his experiences in his clinical practice and the results of research into intercessory prayer, I remember leaning over to my colleague attending with me saying, "This feels like home to me." This I had experienced. This I have known.
