ABSTRACT
This reading is an extract from Blueprint for a Green Economy * , a report commissioned by the British government when it discovered the environment. Public policy with regard to development and conservation is based to a great extent on economic grounds, but environmental goods, because they do not ‘come to market’ are difficult to value in economic terms. In the report the authors explain the need to put an economic value on environmental goods and how this can be done.
