When you have read this chapter you should:

Understand the view that narrow, basic morality has the function of counteracting limited sympathies.

Have a grasp of the prisoners’ and cooperators’ dilemmas.

Have an increased awareness of some of the factors that can impede or facilitate cooperation in the production of environmental goods.

Be able to distinguish between prudential reasons and moral reasons.

Be able to identify the different senses of ‘self-interest’.
