ABSTRACT

Innovative technologies are increasingly allowing us to affect the seas and the animals that inhabit them, in ways that would not have been possible in the past. We are now entering even the deepest and remotest seas to exploit their resources. As a result, our activities are having an impact on cetaceans in new ways across more of their ranges. Human activities are known to affect cetaceans and to degrade, or destroy, their habitats (Kemp, 1996).
