ABSTRACT

This chapter comprises a reflection on data collected while teaching a course on “Women in Islam” to second and third year university students, both on campus and by distance learning, at the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 2009 and 2010. It includes a consideration of the major issues confronting the students in the class and a reflection on the experience of teaching itself and the process of learning, especially of deep learning approaches as a desired learning outcome for studies in religion.
