ABSTRACT
Islamic studies has a relatively long history in Australia. Many older and more established universities, such as the University of Melbourne, began offering Arabic and some Islamic studies subjects in the early 1960s, which gradually led to the establishment of full major, MA and PhD programs in the discipline.
