ABSTRACT

Ten years ago no one would have conceived that customers would visit a library and never read or look at a single item in it. Today we have customers that have never read a book, listened to a CD, watched a DVD, or availed themselves of any of the library’s programs. Some don’t even have a library card. Who are these customers? They are working adults who don’t have computers at home and are rushing in after work to fill out forms online. They are teens that come in after school to grab the first available computer to play games or email friends. They are people looking for jobs online. They are street people trying to connect with family or just pass the time of day. The computers are used from the minute the library doors open until they close.
