ABSTRACT

In the preceding chapters, the authors have identified several important issues for teacher education and training. Themes identified cover such items as (1) system innovation of teacher education, (2) standards and qualifications of teaching professions, (3) curriculum designs for the teachers’ certificates, (4) policy trends of on-the-job teacher training, (5) English teaching and new roles of school teachers, and (6) e-learning and teacher education. In addition, (7) teachers’ cultures were analysed, and (8) the urgency of building sound theories for teacher education was argued. Methodologically, some are comparative and ethnomethodological and others descriptive-explanatory. Almost all of the practical innovations are related to the national policies of economic, social and cultural development of societies in the respective country.
