ABSTRACT

The Hispanic population of the United States is one of the fastest growing ethnic subpopulations in the country. The 1980 census reported that 14.6 million persons of Hispanic descent reside in the United States, making this group the second largest minority in the country (6.4% of the total population). The U.S. Census Bureau (1987) projects that this population will continue to grow by 45.9% through the year 2000.
