ABSTRACT

What do we know about male bisexuality, and about men who understand themselves as bisexual? How can we conceptualize the relationship between sexual desire, behavior, and identity for men who are not exclusively involved with “same-sex” or “opposite-sex” partners? How can we understand the social and cultural dimensions of bisexuality in relation to men? The relative paucity of empirical studies and cultural critiques regarding bisexual men and male bisexuality makes trying to answer these questions difficult and requires patching together information, much of it dated, from a wide variety of sources. This lack of “facts,” along with the corresponding prevalence of numerous myths or “fictions,” motivated the publication of Bisexuality in the Lives of Men: Facts and Fictions, as well as our forthcoming work, Bisexual Men in Culture and Society.
