ABSTRACT

Business and economics librarians have always been in demand. The language of business is in many ways similar to a foreign language. It seems every time a patron approaches the reference desk with a business or statistical question, the business librarian is summoned. Networking can be with other business librarians, with other librarians or information professionals, or with our communities and clientele. Although the outside organizations can provide the knowledge and contacts needed to serve our clienteles, it is equally important that we remain a vital part of the lives of our patrons. Although many library schools have closed over time or offer distance education programs, the alumni from people's library school can be a prime source. Graduating classes or surrounding classes often form close ties. Few professions provide as many opportunities to stay connected as librarianship. Virtual networking can also prove to be invaluable.
