ABSTRACT

The Senior Fellows Program is a three-week residential program held biennially on the campus of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The program is structured around a variety of learning activities including readings, lectures, group discussions, guest speakers, case studies, and field trips. The program is structured so that participants can take full advantage of the immersion experience. Several respondents indicated that the combination of professional networking opportunities, program content, and time away had been important to them. Senior Fellows pointed to a variety of ways in which the program had enhanced their professional development. One Senior Fellow reported coming away with a greater understanding of self and a broadened awareness of leadership issues. The Senior Fellows Program is intended to develop the capacity of library administrators to address the professional challenges and opportunities. As the roster of Senior Fellows participants indicates, the program has a proven track record for identifying future library leaders.
