ABSTRACT

I analyze the Spanish spectators in Andalusia who visit professional soccer stadiums according to different categories. Among the demographic categories, there are two age groups of this kind of supporter which are classified as children and adults. The ultras are classified according to two considerations: the way they support the team and the social position of the fans. There are no clear distinctions between both types. Although they overlap, the categories are based on how they support their teams: radical and accessory. The radicals are persistent, noisy and colourful, and are integrated with the so-called ultras. These young people identify themselves with certain lifestyles which are typical to their social status, normally working class. The position occupied in the social scale, as well as the position occupied in the stadium, is secondary and subordinate.
