ABSTRACT
The birth of the top United States professional soccer league, Major League Soccer (MLS), which began play in 1996, coincided with the rise of the Internet as a widely used information technology. The Internet and Internet discussion boards have become an important part of the soccer culture for many American fans who follow MLS.
