ABSTRACT

How seriously do you take your sports? For a large number of the people worldwide, sports remains associated with the private sphere of an individual. Most people relate it with childhood, adolescence and youth – representing partly companionship, partly leisure, and full enjoyment. A growing number of people in our modern and/or postmodern times have begun to take sports seriously even past their youth for more utilitarian reasons – to retain the physical fitness that slips with time. Yet, caught off guard with the question we began with, perhaps a large number of people would continue to think of ‘sports’ merely as pastime for the young and young-at-heart.
