ABSTRACT

Job satisfaction is a significant factor influencing an individual’s decision to remain in a given work situation. Occupational therapy managers have the capacity to take an active role in facilitating and designing job enrichment activities for therapists and assistants. Several factors can be considered when job enrichment is utilized: length of time in a given job, the amount of challenge and opportu nity the work provides, compatibility between employee interests and programmatic concerns, and the capacity for management to provide a vertical mobility system that financially recognizes per formance. This paper describes a plan used to enhance job enrich ment for certified occupational therapy assistants at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Hospital in Galveston, Texas.
