ABSTRACT

This is a study of the General Accounting Office of the United States, an independent establishment with auditing, quasi-judicial, investigating, and other duties, created according to the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921. This book, like the others in the series, is published according to a uniform plan. It gives: (1) the history of the establishment and the development of the general accounting office; (2) a description of the specific activities of the Controller-General and the subordinate executives; (3) the present organization for carrying on the various activities.
