ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. This paper discusses MAGIC, the University of Connecticut’s Map and Geographic Information Center and its’ Web manifestation (https://magic.lib.uconn.edu/" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">https://magic.lib.uconn.edu/). MAGIC is a place, real and virtual, where the user can go to find collections of materials serving the geodata needs at the University of Connecticut. The map collection exceeds 180,000 sheets of maps and includes aerial photography for the state, hydrographic charts and a variety of formats of spatial information. Since 1994, MAGIC has been collecting public domain geodata with the explicit intent of making those data network accessible to its primary client. The MAGIC collections focus on the state of Connecticut and currently number over 14,000 files and stores over 5 gigabytes of compressed data files in a variety of file formats.
