ABSTRACT

SUMMARY. Historically patent information has been accessed using a manual system in place since the first patent in 1790. As libraries and information in general became automated, patent information lagged behind. Recently there have been attempts to bring patent information into the new world by governmental agencies, private groups, and individuals. This article discusses these successful and not so successful attempts and lists web sites, digital indexes, full text availability, and private sources that contain patent information.
